Frequent questions

What's the difference between UVB and UVA?

UVB are the visible rays of the sun, responsible for sunburn and skin cancer: they are most dangerous between 12pm and 4pm. As for UVA rays, they are present regardless of the time of day, the weather or the season: they are responsible for skin aging and pigmentation spots.

What's the difference between SPF 30, 50 and 50+?

The SPF corresponds to UVB protection: an SPF 30 lets in around 3% of UVBs, while an SPF 50 lets in 2% - a significant difference of 50%! With an SPF above 50, you're also much better protected⸱e from UVA: in Europe, when the UVA logo is circled, it means that UVA protection corresponds to at least a third of UVB protection - i.e. 20 for an SPF 50+.

What is a new-generation organic UV filter?

An organic UV filter is a synthetically-created filter that differs from a naturally-occurring inorganic filter. Organic filters absorb UVA and UVB rays, while mineral filters reflect mainly UVB and little UVA. Some chemical filters are old, dating back to the 70s. They can cause skin reactions. Since then, however, the market has evolved considerably, and the term new-generation filters is used to designate those that have come out in the last 10 years: high-performance and trace-free. More effective protection than traditional organic filters. Greater safety (no chemicals harmful to health or the environment). Reduced environmental impact: more respectful of the environment and without products harmful to marine ecosystems. Better skin tolerance.

How are sunscreens tested for ecotoxicity?

A culture method is used to reproduce a model organism (non-living, the animal is not harmed). Cultures of the model organism are incubated for 7 days with different sunscreens, in order to calculate the rate of cell viability with sunscreens. Coral cell viability remained almost intact with our cream (98%) vs. the other two, which dropped to 65%... (with mineral filters). (with mineral filters).

Why are filters added to sunscreen?

Sun protection products contain sun filters, which are essential for protecting the skin from the sun's harmful effects, preventing the risk of skin cancer such as melanoma, as well as sunburn, premature skin aging and the appearance of spots. By using the right sun protection, you can reduce the risks caused by exposure to the sun's UV rays.

Algae and coral: why are our UV filters among the best on the market?

Following strict ecotoxicity tests carried out on a coral species found in the Mediterranean, Atlantic and English Channel (Anemonia Viridis), our UV filter complex showed less impact on coral cell viability compared to other creams tested simultaneously (SPF50+ sunscreens based on inorganic filters: titanium dioxide and zinc oxide).

I'm pregnant. Can I use your sun protection products?

Our sun stick has been specifically tested and is perfectly suited to pregnant and nursing women. Although our sun creams do not contain any ingredients contraindicated during pregnancy, they have not been specifically tested on pregnant women. As a precaution, we always advise you to consult a health professional in case of doubt.
